Real sailing adventures in the Ionian — with skipper Daniel, aboard Zahree

Sail by day — hoist the sails, take the helm, explore sea caves Dinner on board — home cooking as the light turns golden Your own cabin — or a deck bed under the sky; the sea rocks you to sleep

You sail her, too

This isn't watching the sea go by. Pull a line, hoist a sail, steer into a cove — as much hands-on as you want.

Small boat, real places

Sea caves, empty bays and harbour villages the big boats sail straight past. We anchor, we swim, we stay a while.

One skipper, 15 years

Daniel knows these waters by heart — and he'll photograph your whole adventure while he's at it.

Pick your adventure

Four ways to get out on the water with Daniel. No timetables to rush, no crowds to follow — just wind, clear water and a plan that bends with the day. Every trip is small, personal and unhurried — and every trip leaves from Lefkada Town, so there's no transfer down to Nydri, where most of the island's day boats queue up.

Why Zahree stands out

The trip that stays out overnight

We looked honestly at what Lefkada's best-known boats actually offer a tourist — the big day cruises, the sunset evenings, the week-long charters. Here's where Zahree is genuinely different.

Aboard Zahree The usual Lefkada trip
Departs Lefkada Town — walk to the boat Nydri, for nearly every top-rated day boat
The night You stay out — dinner, stars, and a night asleep at anchor Sunset and stargazing evenings sail home the same night; charters ask for a full week
On board Max 6 guests overnight, in 3 cabins Dozens to hundreds on the big boats — one runs a 400-person boat party
The morning A sunrise swim in an empty cove, before the day boats arrive You reach the famous bays together with everyone else
Your host Daniel himself — skipper, cook and photographer, 15 years on these waters A crew you meet that morning, on a route that never changes

And the stars are not a gimmick: in Booking.com's Travel Predictions 2025 research, 62% of travellers said they were considering darker-sky destinations, with "starbathing" the most-wanted night experience of all. Lefkada already has a 4.9-star sunset-and-stargazing cruise — it just sails home at midnight. Zahree is the one that stays out.

Meet the boat

Meet Zahree

Zahree is a classic two-masted sailing boat, 18 metres of real wood, rope and canvas character — a proper sailing boat, with all the comforts that matter waiting for you at anchor.

Below deck she sleeps guests in three guest cabins, with Daniel in his own skipper's cabin. Everything is close, cosy and personal — you’ll know everyone on board by the first swim stop.

Glamping, Zahree style

Daniel calls it glamping — glamour plus camping, the best of both. All the adventure of a real sailing boat, wrapped in the comforts that count: a proper bed in your own cabin, home cooking served on deck, a swim to cool off whenever you like, and evenings under more stars than you've ever seen.

Meet your skipper

Meet Daniel

There are plenty of skippers in Greece. What makes a trip with Daniel different is that he doesn't run a tour — he takes you on his adventure, the way he's been doing it for 15 years.

He knows which cave the light hits at noon, which bay stays empty in August, and when to hand you the helm and let you feel the boat answer. Guests come back — and send their friends — because a day with Daniel feels like sailing with someone you already know.

  • Professional skipper for 15 years — the Ionian is his home water.
  • He teaches as he sails — hoist, trim, steer. Leave knowing more than you came with.
  • He's a photographer, too — every guest goes home with their trip photos on a USB stick, on the house.
  • Small groups, always — he sails with people, not passenger numbers.

Life on board

The bits in between are the best bits

Dinner under the lamp light. A book on deck with nowhere to be. Dolphins deciding to join you. This is what an adventure day actually looks like.

A proper bed, your own cabin

Adventurous days deserve a good night. Settle into your own cosy cabin, listen to the water along the hull, and let the gentle rocking do the rest.

Stars from the deck — sleep where you like

Dinner and stargazing happen up on deck, under some of the darkest skies in the Ionian. Then choose: your cabin below, or a proper deck bed made up under the sky — with the cabin always waiting if the night turns cool or dewy. In high summer, the deck is where everyone wants to be.

Home cooking, on board

Meals are part of the adventure — fresh, simple and shared around the deck table, with the anchorage as your dining room and the sunset as dessert.

The sea is your air conditioning

Zahree runs on sea air, and it works beautifully: a swim cools you in minutes, the shade of the bimini covers the deck, and the evening breeze looks after the night.

A real boat, alive under sail

When the wind fills the sails she leans in and picks up speed — that gentle heel is the feeling sailors chase. Snug, exciting, and Daniel is right there with you the whole way.

Where we sail

The southern Ionian, slowly

We sail from Lefkada, through the sheltered island sea between Lefkada, Meganisi, Ithaca and Kefalonia — short hops, calm water, and a new anchorage whenever the day calls for one.

01

Lefkada

Home port. We cast off from Lefkada Town and you're under sail within the hour — no long transfers, no wasted morning.

02

Meganisi & the Papanikolis Cave

The big one. Sail into the vast Papanikolis sea cave — big enough to hide a submarine in the war — then swim in the bays around Meganisi.

03

Sivota

A tiny fishing harbour on Lefkada's south coast. Dinner ashore, boats bobbing at the quay, village life at walking pace.

04

Ithaca

Odysseus's island. Green hills, quiet anchorages and harbours that feel a world away — because out here, they are.

05

Kefalonia

The big island to the south — dramatic coastline, emerald bays and harbour towns made for long evenings. The far edge of our longer adventures.

Before you sail

Good to know

A few friendly answers so you can picture life on board before you even step onto the deck. Anything else on your mind, just email Daniel.

The Ionian way: in the sea. Zahree runs on fresh sea air rather than air conditioning — a swim cools you in minutes, the bimini shades the deck, and the evening breeze takes care of the night. Most guests tell us they slept brilliantly, rocked by the water.

Alive — in the best way. The boat moves with the sea and leans gently when the wind fills the sails; that heel is the feeling sailors chase. You'll hear the water along the hull, feel the wind do the work, and you can get hands-on: hoisting, trimming, steering. Prefer to watch with a drink in hand? That's an adventure too.

Small groups only. Zahree has three guest cabins, so overnight trips stay small and personal — you'll know everyone's name by lunch. Day adventures are kept small too. No queues, no crowds, no loudspeaker.

Less than you think: swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, a hat, soft shoes or bare feet for deck, and a light layer for the evening sail home. Bring a sense of adventure — Daniel brings the boat, the route, the local knowledge and the camera.

The season runs April to September, when the Ionian is warm and the sailing is at its best. We're now building the list for the 2027 season — join it, and you'll be first to hear when dates open.

None at all. Most guests have never sailed before. Daniel skippers the boat and keeps everyone safe — your only job is to enjoy it, and join in as much or as little as you like.

It's unlikely to spoil your trip. We sail the sheltered inland sea between Lefkada and Meganisi — short hops, calm anchorages — and the afternoon breeze usually dies right down at sunset, so nights at anchor are quiet. Daniel picks the anchorage for a still night. If you're prone to seasickness, mention it when you write and we'll plan around the calmest days.

Yes — and you won't be out there alone. Daniel sleeps aboard in his own skipper's cabin, chooses anchorages sheltered for the night, and keeps a professional's eye on wind and weather, as he has for 15 years. Sleeping at anchor in a quiet Ionian bay is the calmest night of most guests' whole holiday.

The stars are the headline, not the whole show: dinner on deck, a night swim and Greek star myths carry a bright night easily. And because moonlight washes out the Milky Way, the darkest new-moon weeks are the ones we point star-lovers to first — with the Perseid meteor shower each August as the night of the year.
